Christmas, a time for giving. There is a delight in giving. It expresses a thoughtfulness that reaches deep within us. I can't help but think of what God gave.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Is 9:6
For God so loved the world that He gave...
The price for His gift was immeasurable: The death of His Son. Why would God send His immortal Son, whom He loves beyond anything else, to become mortal in a world of suffering and death? Why would the Word consent to become flesh? If death be the price of the gift, what possible reason would God have to impose that death upon His beloved Son?
It is not about mistletoe, or baubles on trees. It is not about reindeer flying through the sky. It is about a need, the desperate need of a world that through rebellion rejects God and to this day suffers the consequences of that rejection. And because man could not pay the price for a righteous standing before God, God payed the price Himself. Oh glorious day when Jesus was born, but Oh, what more glory the day he died in my place.
Merry Christmas to one and all.
