The Word was made flesh.

Hi All, I'm witnessing to a Jehovah's Witness so I would appreciate prayers for Reynaldo.  Interestingly, I found this gem during my early morning devotions. ~Al And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.  Joh 1:14    And the Word was made flesh - The word " flesh ," here, is evidently used to denote " human nature " or " man ." See Mat 16:17; Mat 19:5; Mat 24:22; Luk 3:6; Rom 1:3; Rom 9:5. The " Word " was made " man ." This is commonly expressed by saying that he became " incarnate ." When we say that a being becomes " incarnate ," we mean that one of a higher order than man, and of a different nature, assumes the appearance of man or becomes a man. Here it is meant that " the Word ," or the second person of the Trinity, whom John had jus...

Merry Christmas

Christmas, a time for giving. There is a delight in giving. It expresses a thoughtfulness that reaches deep within us. I can't help but think of what God gave. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Is 9:6 For God so loved the world that He gave ... The price for His gift was immeasurable: The death of His Son. Why would God send His immortal Son, whom He loves beyond anything else, to become mortal in a world of suffering and death? Why would the Word consent to become flesh? If death be the price of the gift, what possible reason would God have to impose that death upon His beloved Son? It is not about mistletoe, or baubles on trees. It is not about reindeer flying through the sky. It is about a need, the desperate need of a world that through rebellion rejects...

John 14

This is wonderful. ~Al Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1-11   Here are three words, upon any of which stress may be laid. Upon the word, troubled . Be not cast down and disquieted. The word, heart . Let your heart be kept with full trust in God. The word, your . However others are overwhelmed with the sorrows of this present time, be not you so. Christ's disciples, more than others, should keep their minds quiet, when everything else is unquiet. Here is the remedy against this trouble of mind, " Believe ." By believing in Christ as the Mediator between God and man, we gain comfort. The happiness of heaven is spoken of as in a father's house. There are many mansions, for there are many sons to be brought to glory. Mansions are lasting dwellings. Christ will be the Finisher of that of which he is the Author or Beginner; if he has prepared the place for us, he will prepare us ...

Al stuff: Manasseh

This is chapter one of 7 Wonders of Grace , by C.H. Spurgeon.  It is well worth the read.  If you would like to receive other chapters, drop me a line. ~Al MANASSEH; OR , THE OUTRAGEOUS REBEL.   "And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, and prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God." - 2 Chronicles 33:12-13.   WHEN we wish to recommend a physician to a friend who is very ill we are in the habit of mentioning certain cures which he has wrought; and when we can produce several astonishing instances we feel that we are going the right way to work to convince the judgment of our friend and to win his confidence in the doctor. Now, it is our impression that very many are anxi...

Temptation of Jesus

Dear All, Studying the life of Jesus is wonderful.  This is an excerpt from the life of Jesus in Fausset's dictionary.  You do yourself an injustice if you fail to read the scripture references. I redacted the entry for easier reading, and added the quoted poem at the end. God Bless, ~Al The Temptation of Jesus   Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.  Mat 4:1       Under the power of the Spirit received at His baptism He encountered Satan in the wilderness. Satan's aim was to tempt Him to doubt His sonship, " if Thou be the Son of God ," etc. The same voice spoke through His mockers at the crucifixion (Mat 27:40). Faith answers with Nathanael (Joh 1:49). Mar 1:13 says " He was with the wild beasts ," a contrast to the first Adam among the beasts tame and subject to man's will. Adam changed paradise into a wilder...

Al stuff: Listen to this.

Dear All, I have been in the book of Daniel recently.  I find that when God is impressing us with a message by His Holy Spirit, He will confirm His message by a witness.  This message seriously needs to be heard!  When I heard this sermon, which is hot off the presses, I had my confirmation.  Listen to it, it is important! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xodpIzhmgc ~Al

She Was Taken Out of Man

Hi, I don't usually like to copy something this long, but it is so worthwhile that I felt I must pass it along. In Christ, ~Al S HE W AS T AKEN O UT OF M AN   Horatius Bonar (1808-1889)   And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.—Genesis 2:21-23   T HE peculiar process adopted by the Creator in forming the help-meet [1] was to intimate to man the nature of the companion presented to him and the closeness of the tie...
