And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Gen 22:3
The Direction of Duty
Abraham took the direction of his duty from God's word, not from his own discernment (cf. Gen. 12:4; Heb. 11:8). Our danger is to water down God's word to suit ourselves. God never fits His word to suit me; He fits me to suit His word. The discernment of God's call does not come in every moment of life, but only in rare moments; the moments Our Lord spoke of as 'the light' (John 12: 35-36). We have to remain true to what we see in those moments; if we do not, we will put back God's purpose in our life. The undercurrent of regret arises when we confer with those who have not heard the call of God, and if we listen to them we get into darkness. (Oswald Chambers)
