666

Beloved, It is a comfort to know that the gates of Hell will never prevail against the Church of Jesus.  There is a lot of depth and comfort in this message, and it is well worth your time to read it. ~Al Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six . Rev 13:18 Sixes and sevens I. The beast whose number is 666. The beast is not one, but three. It is evident the last verse sums up the two chapters, and gives its total number like the answer in an addition sum. 1. The first beast is the " great red dragon " of chap. 12. He has " seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads ." He appears in heaven in open revolt against all authority, and with special enmity against the man child. Who is this daring, determined fiend who disturbs heaven's peace, and is thirsty for the blood of the saints? In Rev 12:9 we are told he is...

The Cross by Bonar

I love Horatius Bonar.  He had a true grasp of Christianity, and was able to convey it in the most simple terms. ~Al And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.  Rev 11:8  The Cross of the Lord Jesus This passage strikingly identifies the Master and the servants—our Lord and His witnesses. They were to suffer as He suffered and where He suffered: one with Him in life and death, in shame and glory; one with Him on the Cross, in the grave, in resurrection, in ascension, and on the throne. " Where also our Lord was crucified ." It is the last reference to the Cross of Christ in the Bible, and corresponds well with that frequent expression in the Revelation, " the Lamb slain "; carrying us back to " the seed of the woman " and " the bruised heel ." 1. It was the place of guilt and condemnation (Mat 27:22; Mat 27:26; Mat 27:2...

The Christianity of St. John

Dearly Beloved, What was the Church teaching in the time of the Apostles?  I think this goes to the core of our belief.  Joseph Foxely, M.A., wrote a brief but concise observation of this from the book of Revelations.  Ours is not a progressive religion, but a religion based upon foundations that have never moved.  I think it is worth your while to ponder this. ~Al  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:  Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.  Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.  Rev 1:1 -3     The Christianity of St. John   1. Of what sort was the Christianity of St. John betw...
